Arcona 380Z – Winner of the Sailing Today Green Award

The Arcona Yachts built and Oceanvolt powered Arcona 380Z has won the Sailing Today Green Award! The winner in this category was selected by an expert editorial panel.

The panel wanted to recognize an impressive product or service aiming to make sailing more environmentally friendly. Sweden’s Arcona has long been reputed for its fast, stiff, high-quality cruising yachts, but has recently become the first boatbuilder to offer a ‘zero emissions’ option to customers. Clever use of emerging photovoltaic film technology turns the mainsail into a 1kW solar panel. Alongside an Oceanvolt regenerating electric motor, lithium ion batteries and fuel cell or small generator, this makes the boat self sufficient in energy. Sailing Today editor Sam Fortescue said: “Far from being a gimmick, this green technology forms an important plank in Arcona’s market positioning, and already looks popular with sailors. Arcona is showing other boatbuilders the way to designing greener yachts. This could be a game changer."
