X-Yachts: Xc47

From Normandy to the Norwegian Fjords

16.10.2026

After sailing for more than 30 years, France and Lluis finally decided it was time to buy the boat of their dreams. A little over a year later, their brand-new XC47, built by Danish X-Yachts and powered by Oceanvolt’s Servoprop 25 hybrid system, set sail. Roughly six months later, we had the opportunity to meet Lluis and hear about their adventures so far.

As a newly retired engineer, Lluis has always been interested in innovative technology, so naturally, sailing a hybrid boat is an experience he describes as truly unique. However, he admits that he initially had one concern: can electric propulsion be as reliable as traditional propulsion? Well, six months, 2,000 nautical miles, and seven countries later, he can proudly say that it can.

Enjoying the sunset in silence.

Throughout the journey, which began in Normandy, France, continued along the coast of England, returned to France, and then took them through the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and finally Norway, the silence of electric cruising, the ability to generate energy while sailing, and the comfort of always having power on board continued to impress them. And the most impressive part? During the entire trip, they used only around 140 liters of diesel to power the generator.

With friends and family joining them for different stretches along the way, they spent their first summer as boat owners on a journey most sailors only dream of. The boat quickly became exactly what they had hoped it would be: a floating home with the comfort and space to live aboard for months at a time. Feeling at home also requires a sense of peace. Lluis explains how everyone who joined them during the trip could experience the comfort that the silence and cleanliness of electric sailing bring.

“Friends and family loved the peace and quiet. We were able to connect not only with the ocean, but also with each other, in a different way.”

A sunny breakfast.

Regardless of whether your home is on shore or at sea, every home requires maintenance from time to time. And as all sailors know, when it comes to floating homes, getting answers quickly is invaluable. Lluis happily tells us that all the questions and concerns that naturally arise when sailing a new boat were quickly addressed by X-Yachts and Oceanvolt. And we can assure him that this level of support will continue throughout many future adventures.

One of the greatest joys of sailing is the sense of freedom it brings. That feeling radiates from Lluis as he talks about the adventures still to come. Their boat will spend the winter in Norway, and after that, all options remain open. Perhaps they will continue exploring the Baltic region. Or maybe they will trade the Nordic landscapes for the Caribbean. Whatever they decide, we warmly welcome France and Lluis to the Oceanvolt community and wish them the very best on their future adventures.

True comfort includes true performance.
